Sleep like a volcano: the best places to stay on Montserrat
I was a Montserrat Destination Specialist from 1988-1995. My inventory of villas included luxury homes with expansive sea views and upscale amenities. My business came to a full top when Soufriere woke after a 400 year sleep. My dream to bring travelers back to Montserrat is unfolding but first, staying in tune with my professional policy, I needed to experience the island first hand. A local real estate agent introduced me to two property owners. Needing 5 bedrooms we chose the former Mars (as in candy bar) home.
Villa Breezes, a five-bedroom home in Woodlands turned out to be absolutely perfect.
Spacious and comfortable, the villa offered sweeping views of Redonda and Antigua. Everyone had their own bedroom and bath, striking that ideal balance between privacy and togetherness. My daughter chose the upper suite with view of Redonda. She was tickled pink as her favorite book as a child was The Dragon of Redonda by Frane Lessac. Redonda is a tiny, rugged Caribbean island that’s part of Antigua and Barbuda. Uninhabited and virtually untouched, it’s a sanctuary for seabirds but was one a place for guano mining. Our suite had views of the sunset which was stunning each evening. The other two guests had spacious king bedded rooms one facing the pool and one with a private patio with views of the spacious garden. The wrap around deck was massive. The family room was complete with comfortable furnishing, dining area and a book and game library. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything needed to prepare a gourmet meal. The gardens at Breezes were manicured and lovely. We enjoyed hours of pool time under the Caribbean sun.

Walkable to Woodlands Beach (with a serious uphill return!)
The house came fully equipped and with two cars which made exploring easy.
